We want to invite you to Tomasz Kulbowski’s exhibition – “Accidents” which will take place in Krakow as a part of 10th edition of Photo Month.
Photos for the exhibition mostly have been taken in big cities like Sidney, London, Warsaw or Marrakesh. They mainly focus on people in public spaces – their daily routines, interactions with surroundings, the influence one person has on the other. But you can also find there signs of individuality in big communities. They all show the great appreciation the author has for the light in urban areas – sharp contrasts and deep shadows that enclose the space.
The photographer works discretely to present us the reality – unposed, not influenced by the presence of the camera. He tries to show everyday life of big cities: tourists, street artists, people going to work, shopping or relaxing. And in all those accidental situations the author shows unrepeatable meaning and unexpected compositions. His frames organize spontaneous configurations of light, shadows, colours, architecture and other elements of urban space interacting with people who are part of that scenery.
“Accident” becomes the co-author of those photos, as the real author relay on instinct, reflex and improvisation, and not on thinking and planning. The effects of this joint action is often better than that of many carefully studied and prepared compositions.
Open from 17th May to 6th June 2012, everyday from 10AM (weekends from 12:00)
In 2008 they started their website and blog, which in reality is the biggest collection of Polish street photographers. At the moment one can find there 41 presentations of 36 authors. From time to time they also publish an interesting interview or essay on street photography, photojurnalism or documentary photography. A member of Snaps – Mariusz Forecki – publishes an e-magazine 5klatek, which also has its own application on AppStore.
The youngest of the list, but at the same time the one that gets recognition the fastest. It was founded in 2011 and at the beginning of 2012 they have already had their first exhibition in Leica Gallery in Warsaw. They publish contemporary photographs, but they also try to remember the Pioneers of the genre in Poland. They have their own group on Flickr, where you can send your own photos
The last but not least place you should visit when you look for information on Polish street photography is a message board on pentax.org.pl and its famous topic Fotografia uliczna (Street Photography). It is not a formalized group as the other four are, but you can find there a lot of information and plenty great (and not so great) photographs. On over 600 pages you can read about almost every possible aspect of street photography you can imagine.
